Aikido is a martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th century from japanese jujitsu, sword and staff traditions.
Aikido techniques and movements are based on the idea of harmony. The aikidoist uses spherical movements, blending with the attack, moving in such a way as to neutralize the force of the attack and thus the attacker. Properly executed, some techniques are spectacular, sending the attacker flying through the air. Others are more subtle, small movements that can immobilize the aggressor. Aikido is not dependent on brute strength but positioning, timing and skill. Women and men of all ages enjoy practicing it. Aikido is a lot of fun to practice.
