WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST.
Aikido is a martial art developed in the last century by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969) known as O Sensei (great teacher). He was a master of Sword, Staff, Spear and Ju-jitsu.
Aikido is written with three characters: Ai- to join, blend, and harmonize Ki- universal energy and Do- the way or path which translates as the way of harmonizing universal energy.
Aikido techniques and movements are based on the idea of harmony. The aikidoist uses spherical movements, blending with the attack, moving in such a way as to neutralize the force of the attack and thus the attacker. Properly executed, some techniques are spectacular, sending the attacker flying through the air. Others are more subtle, small movements that can immobilize the aggressor. Aikido is not dependent on brute strength but positioning, timing and skill. Women and men of all ages enjoy practicing it. Aikido is a lot of fun to practice.
